Question:
How do I setup Bluetooth GPS receiver with my Treo 650 / Palm OS 5 handheld?
Solution:
Important Pre-requisite Steps
Once you are done using Navigator, tap on the home icon to return to the home screen of your Palm, and then turn your GPS receiver off. By following these steps, it will keep the communication between the GPS receiver and the PDA strong. This will eliminate having to go through the configuration process every time.
- Switch the Any NMEA Bluetooth GPS Receiver /TomTom Wireless GPS off.
- Select the Bluetooth icon on the Palm.
- Switch the Bluetooth OFF on the Palm.
- Tap on the Setup Devices and then Trusted Devices button and delete any PalmOne/TomTom GPS entries.
- Reset the Palm by placing the stylus in the reset hole on the back.
- Switch the Any NMEA Bluetooth GPS Receiver /TomTom Wireless GPS back on.
- Go back the Bluetooth icon on Palm.
- Switch the Bluetooth ON Palm and set Discoverable to Yes
- Tap on the Setup Devices and then Trusted Devices button and then Add Device
- When PalmOne/TomTom Wireless GPS shows up tap on that and enter the pass code 0000 4-zeros in the dialogue box that appears using the palm keyboard.
Once the trusted device has been created, we also suggest changing the GPS hardware
specifications.
- Go into the TomTom Navigator
- Choose Agree
- Tap on screen to bring up options
- Choose Change preferences
- Tab over several screen until you see show GPS Status
- Then choose Configure
On this screen, make sure the picture shows Other Bluetooth GPS/TomTom Wireless GPS. If it doesn't, you can use the arrows on either side of the picture to browse through the selections.
Once Other Bluetooth GPS/TomTom Wireless GPS is shown, choose select and this will bring you back to the GPS Status screen. On the top left there may be some small black text that may say No GPS Device! or No Valid GPS Signal.
If it says No Valid GPS Signal the GPS Receiver and PDA are communicating properly and both will need to be placed outside temporary to have access to a clear sky view in order to get a GPS Signal.
If you still encounter a problem with connecting to your Bluetooth GPS receiver, or you receive the No GPS Device! message, the device may need to be serviced.
